Phan Thiet, situated 198km East of Ho Chi Minh City, is a seaside town with high tourism potential. Tranquil and peaceful, the town is ideal for one who want to provisionally forget the busy life in big city and to look for a palce of rest and relaxtion.
Despite the fact that Phan Thiet just has a small number of beaches, all beaches here are quite beautiful and picturesque with swaying palm trees, white sand and blue sea. Mui Ne, the tropical beach, is known as a fishing village as well as a tourism area.It is also a famous venue for kite-surfing and windsurfing competitions during August to April.
Of the whole country, Phan Thiet has the largest number of resorts with many kinds of services and facilities especially massage, sauna, steam room and fitness centre. Inside the town, there are Ho Chi Minh Museum and two kinds of temples: the Khmer style temples and Vietnamese style pagodas. Ho Chi Minh Museum has lots of old photographs and newspaper relating to the revolution of the nation. The Khmer temples in the town are actually inherited from the Cham ethnic between 7th century and 12th century.
These days, Phan Thiet is rapidly changing, and the biggest and most important change of all is to increase popular beach resorts and new hotels. However, fishing industry still plays a significant role in the economy. Everyday, the residents here earn their living by farming, fishing and making new products of fish, particularly one kind of sauce called “nuoc mam”.
