Located in the Northeast of Vietnam, Halong City is the economic, cultural and political centre of Quang Ninh Province. It is also the most famous tourist attraction in the North with the second highest number of both domestic and international visitors. Therefore, the city’s economy has recently switched from coal mining to tourism as a result of the increasing number of visitors every year. The city has a tropical climate, with two distinct seasons: hot, humid summer and cold, dry winter.

Halong City is actually divided into two towns connected by a bridge: Bai Chay (the western part) and Hon Gai (the eastern part). However, of the two parts, Bai Chay is the more fascinating destination for travelers. Inside the city, there are a lot of temples, pagodas, beauty spots and historical relics, such as: Bai Tho Mountain and Long Tien pagoda.

Halong Bay was recognized twice to be the World Heritage Site by UNESCO, one in 1994 and the other in 2000. The bay has got a lot of natural sights of extraordinary beauty, created by three factors: stone, water and sky. Halong Bay is famous for hundreads of caves hiding many historical evidences and many limestone and schist islands. Amazingly, each island has its own shape and size. Almost of the islands were called for its unusual shape, some were named for its legend. However, the most popular are Tuan Chau and Cat Ba islands with many recreational areas, restaurants and luxurious hotels.

The food here is very diversified, with seafood in particular, such as: penaeidea, panulirus, crab, cuttlefish, oyster, arca and many kinds of fishs. Although the seafood is delicious, it is not too much expensive for travelers. Indeed, with all its characteristics, Halong City is really worth making a vacation.
